Quilt Camp QAL Week 1 - Fabric Pull
You are in for a killer summer! Im so glad you are here for Quilt Camp! This sampler quilt is by far the funnest quilt I have EVER made! Lets jump right in!
Week 1 is FABRIC PULL! This is my favorite part of the creative process when it comes to quilting. I always wish I had more time to make every quilt I make in at least five variation.
If you're like me you have so much fun pulling different colors, different prints, or mixing solids and prints. I seriously would love a job just creating palettes.
I want to share with you one of the easiest ways I create a solid color palette or take a print and mix it with solids.
First find a photo or take a picture for inspiration. For this Quilt Camp I was inspired by my daughters newest summer play dress.
Next head over to Palette Builder 2.1 over at Play Crafts. Upload your photo and it will automatically grab six colors from the photo. The coolest part is you can move the color selectors around and even add more depending on what your pattern calls for.
The builder uses Bella Solids by Moda and even gives you the product number. You do not have to use Bella solids though you can easily look at another color card from Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids, Kona, or any other solid line and find close matches to create that palette. Is that not the coolest thing!
This is the palette I went with using Art Gallery Pure Solids. This is by far my favorite way to create a fabric pull. I also wanted to include a little bit about managing and storing my fabric, so in the video below I share my favorite tip (Mini Bolts).
