Quilt Camp QAL Week 7 - Picnic
You are in for a fun afternoon with this Picnic block! Its not surprise my two blocks for this quilt along both have food related names. I mean I am 35+ weeks pregnant so food and naps are at the top of my priority list.
This week we are focusing on a square in a square block that uses a nine patch and strip sets to get us there. I designed this block first with the idea of a picnic blanket or a summer gingham in mind so the name is truly fitting.
Thankfully you have already sewn a nine patch together on week 2, so you will get to use that skill again and nest your seams to create those share corner match ups.
Then after that the main tips I have for you this week is to focus in on your 1/4" seam you could even use a scant 1/4" seam to give your self a little more wiggle room on the strip sets for later when you cut it up. A "scant" 1/4" seam is a seam that is just under a 1/4" seam so sewing a little narrower than the standard 1/4". Either will work with this block, so do what's most comfortable.
Cutting up a beautiful strip set can be challenging but after all that is why we are here at camp to take on challenges. Its not hard so follow along in the video below to see exactly how to cut your strip sets into the corner triangles for you square in a square.
Remember to post your block by Sunday night so you can be entered to win this weeks giveaway. Thank you to our wonderful sponsor and all the awesome camp counselors. Plus watch the full video tutorial below and always feel free to reach out with any questions.
