Star of Bethlehem Pillow

Quilted pillow, pillow pattern, star of bethlehem

Well this escalated quickly. Haha You are in for a treat with this quick pillow pattern.  I swore up and down to myself I was not going to write another pattern this year. I was just going to enjoy the time with my family.

Well Covid hit our house and I had two weeks on my hands and an idea in my head so I figured why not. (My husband not me ... yet)

This is my first foundation paper pieced pattern and I think its pretty fun! It will be great for beginners too because each template only has one sew line.

Plus this pillow pattern uses a zipper and a french seam process that I just love! The french seam blew my mind the first time I tried it and now I am hooked for the crisp edge it gives to a pillow with out having to bind it. It give an internal binding which add so much structure to the edge of the pillow.

The steps to create a french seam are as follows:

First sew in the zipper to the bottom edge of the pillow front and back. For a frech seam pillow you start an inch in on each side to leave room for the second seam you will make.

zipper

Second stitch a 1/4" seam with the wrong sides of the pillow front and pillow back together. Only around 3 sides do not stitch on the zipper edge. It seams wrong but its correct you will be stitching on the front of the pillow case.

Third snip the corners leaving 1/8" worth of fabric from the seam.

Now flip the pillow case inside out. Pushing out the corners all the way and rolling the seam to make it as flat as possible. Sew a 1/2" seam all the way around the pillow. Pay close attention to the zipper.
Starting at the zipper making sure the zipper pull is in the center of the pillow back stitch over your zipper seam. Then sew a 45 degree angle up to you 1/2" seam spot.
Lastly trim the corners leaving a 1/4" of fabric and the zipper tails. Turn the pillow right side out and stuff with a 22" x 22" pillow insert.
I hope you found this helpful! Keep it peachy, happy quilting, and focus on your progress!!! If you have any questions feel free to message or comment if you have any questions.
