Striped Jewel - Cozy & Joyful
This quilt gives me ALL of the winter feels! In July I was STALKING the Christmas fabric lines planning to create another Striped Jewel quilt out of something amazing. Thank the good lord for Maureen Cracknell she killed it with this line, Cozy & Joyful.
The colors alone deserved a round of a plause but the prints deserved a pattern to show them off!
First of all let me say this line is made by Art Gallery Fabrics and they are BEYOND soft. Like you literally feel the difference. Once I felt how soft they were this quilt immediately left the wall hanging status and moved to the back of the couch for the whole season!
The hardest part of this whole quilt was deciding what to use as the background fabric. I was looking at the collection on AGF's website (Cozy & Joyful lookbook) while I was not so patiently waiting for my fabrics to come in and saw the AGF Pure Solid color Icy Mint (PE-451). Once I decided on background I knew I wanted to incorporate some gold in the center strip since they Jolly March print (Nutcrackers) had some gold too. I ended up getting the Prisma Elements Pearl and Gold Metalic since AGF showed it on the Cozy and Joyful look book as a coordinating fabric.
It all came together so well! My favorite print is a solid tie between the Jolly March and the Winter Wonderland. My husband and I love the cold. Especially for vacations, so this line spoke straight to my heart.
Anyway with the crazy shipping delays from Covid it was taking forever for the fabrics to get to me. Once they finally came I busted my you know what to get it completed to take it on a trip to Lake Tahoe with me.
Well three nights before I left I realized I did not have enough of the Jolly March fabric for the backing. I learned a VERY important lesson to double check the direction of a print for the backing before ordering.
I normally piece my backing horizontally meaning the direction of the print runs with the width of the fabric (the top of the print starts at one salvage edge). The Jolly March fabric however ran with the length of the fabric meaning the top of the fabric is on the cut edge. This made me have to piece the backing vertically with one long seam running down the middle of the backing from top to bottom.
I am so appreciative of Hawthorne Supply Co. they showed up and delivered by having their one day shipping. Do not get me wrong it cost an arm and a leg to get it over night but I so desperately wanted to take this quilt on my trip.
I got it in a finished the quilting in binding in an afternoon, roughly six hours later I had my quilt top finished just in time to leave the next day!
See what I mean this cabin we stayed at was begging for this quilt and these photos!
